HICKMAN COUNTY PHOTO CONTEST 2011 ANNOUNCED
The Hickman County Arts Council
has announced its second annual Photography Contest. Winners will be announced during Civil War Days on October 8th at the
Columbus-Belmont State Park Visitors Center.
“There has been a lot of enthusiasm for this
show,” said Jill Whitesell, council member and show organizer. “We had a great response in 2008, with a wide range
of excellent entries, and we are excited to see what this year will bring,” Whitesell said.
The show will be juried by Dana Heath and her husband, Ric Watson of Mayfield. Heath recently retired as director
of Mayfield/Graves County Art Guild and Icehouse Gallery. Watson has written several articles which feature artists in West
Kentucky. Both are accomplished artists in their own right, and spent about a decade living and working in New York City before
returning here.
Four categories will comprise the competitive-art photography show: People, Places, Animals, and — with an
emphasis on the local — Civil War Days. Photographers of all ages may enter as many photographs as desired. A $25 prize
will be awarded for 1 Place, $15 for 2 Place, and $10 for 3rd Place in each category.
A $5 entry fee
will be charged for each submission. Proceeds will benefit the Hickman County Arts Council activities. All entries will be
publicly exhibited on October 8 at the Columbus-Belmont Visitors Center from 9:30 - 10:45 am. During this time, light refreshments will be served and awards will be presented.
Interested photographers
may obtain The Hickman County Photo Contest brochure and Entry Form at the Hickman County Judge-Executive’s Office,
Old Courthouse, Clinton, Ky, as well as other businesses around town. Submissions will be received from September 5th through
October 7 .
Award winning entries will be shown at other locations in Clinton following the
Civil War Days.
“Many people have appealing images they are proud of, but few others ever
see. The Hickman County Photo Contest is a great opportunity to let other people enjoy those favorite pictures, too,”
Jill Whitesell said.
