HORSE PHOTOS ON DISPLAY IN COURTHOUSE

Horse Photography on Display

The Hickman County Arts Council has once again changed the display in its case inside the hallway of the county's courthouse.  The new display highlights the photographic talent of Patsy Via Bradt and her love for horses.  Patsy's photography hobby began several years ago with a class in Beginning Photography and a new Olympus OM1.  She loves taking pictures of landscapes, people, and animals.

Patsy was born, raised, and educated in Hickman County, the daughter of Novella and Henry Via and the sister of Tommy Via. She graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Business Education.  She began a career in education at the Fulton/Hickman County Vocational School as a Business and Office teacher.  Upon moving to Frankfort in 1978 she was employed by the Kentucky Department of Education with responsibilities related to the student data system for vocational enrollees in all 126 counties, all vocational centers, vocational students in the prison system, and the state vocational/technical schools.

Retired now and back home on the family farm Patsy is "living the dream" among 100 registered Tennessee Walking Horses of all sizes, colors, and ages.  Photo opportunities abound just outside her front and back door.  A lot of her time is spent arranging her photos on her brother's website viahorses.com.

Patsy's other interests include snow skiing, horseback riding, and spending time with her family and friends.  On any given day, you can find her in the pastures of the family farm trying to get the perfect shot of horses and the foals.  Patsy concludes, "It is really enjoyable to take pictures of the horses and usually requires at least one person's help.  The horses are so curious they tend to follow me wherever I go rather than standing still for a picture".

The Arts Council encourages everyone to stop by the courthouse and take a few minutes to enjoy the photographic talents of Patsy and the beauty of the horses to which she is drawn.

Thanks to the renovation and refurbrishing of a display case for the Arts Council to use in the Hickman County Courthouse by members of the Arts Council led by Chairman Danny Whitlock, local artists will soon be able to share their work with everyone coming in the Courthouse.

Because of size limitations, only smaller works will be accomodated, but that is large enough for books, prints, papercrafts, pottery, fabric crafts and whatever interesting products Hickman County connected artists can come up with.

If you or someone you know wants to get into the act (or in this case, the display), contact Danny Whitlock.
