Barn Photos Display With Quilts

Jill and Hunter Whitesell filled the Museum with their photos of barns. The Whitesells are both accomplished photographers. Their barns are works of art. Stopping by to see them at the Museum while they are on display is a "must do" while in Clinton.

Favorites? Hunter's cat and barn got oohs and ahs. His storm coming in stopped visitors for a second and third look. Jill's colorful look at a white barn was a counterpoint for quilts. Nothing is as simple as it seems.

Lily Kimbell brought her barn photos to the Museum Annex to complement the Women's Club exhibit.

Artists see beauty in the old and the new. Lily, Hunter and Jill see barns in a way most of us do not. They share their vision of rural life and culture with those of us who pass by local farms every day and don't really look.  Then the mundane among us have that moment of "ah-ha" and share briefly in their passion.

Sharing a vision whether in cloth as quilters do, through the camera's eye or with pen and paper is risky business. We are all flesh, bone and tender feelings. Putting one's soul on canvas, cloth and paper can bring thoughtless criticism or praise that warms. Artists take the chance and thank God they do. We are poorer without them.
