Local writers get deserved recognition.

Writers Day - April 2006
 
Robert Penn Warren's 100th birthday was a good occasion to honor local writers for their efforts and achievements in adding to the knowledge and culture of Hickman County. Warren, a Kentucky native was a poet and Pulitzer Prize winning novelist, who wrote "All the King's Men".

Dorothy Nell Harper explains her love of poetry. Dorothy Nell had two books in print and a third book in the planning stages when we had this event. She has since published "For the Love of Poetry".  She is a popular speaker and prolific poet.
 
Danny Whitlock, Vice Chair of the Arts Council, created the certificates and handed them out. As a school principal, he had the experience to do the job!

The Arts Council sponsored an awards ceremony for local writers and poets. Writers received a Certificate of Recognition and were honored at a reception at the Women's Club.
 
Katie Beck, our own master gardener, grew and arranged the flowers. Bette Chandler made her refreshing punch and members contributed cookies for refreshments.
